One of WordPress’s default taxonomies is a category. Categories may be used to categorize and divide your blog content into separate areas. For example, a news website may categorize its articles as opinion, weather, sports, or movies.

Categories inform visitors about the subjects covered on your website and assist them to browse it more efficiently.

In a fresh WordPress installation, the default category is “Uncategorized.” If you do not provide a category for a post, it is automatically assigned to the default category. Only a WordPress administrator has the ability to alter the default category.

When updating a blog post, tick the box next to the category name to add it to that category. You can find the list of the categories in the sidebar from the right. You can add a new category as well.
